Sneak peeks into the storyβ¦
Hush
βHas anyone ever touched you?β Auntie asked me
while sitting in the back seat. βAhem.β I hesitated while
sitting next to Sissy. As I glanced at her, afraid, I
stammered and said, βSomebody made me suck their
big toe.β
βShush,β Sissy said as she pinched my leg. βHush,β
they said; Sissy obeyed their commands. Defenselessly,
we were unable to speak. Lured and harassed, Church
Boy intimidated us. βHush, donβt tell nobody.β We both
are scared, so we donβt tell nobody, confused and abused.
Who could have had a clue? βShush, Sissy, donβt speak.β
My face is hot; I canβt speak. βHush, donβt tell anyone.
We will be homeless if we give evidence.β Now I canβt
speak. My mouth is shut; I canβt breathe. βShush, donβt
tell nobody. Surely one day you will testify.β
